Soft Tissue Therapy

Soft tissue includes muscles, ligaments and tendons which over time can present with tension from prolonged postures, injury, repetitive strain, etc.

This tension may produce pain, tenderness and/or cause movement dysfunctions and can cause trigger points within the tissue. A trigger point is a taut band of muscle that can be painful upon compression and can lead to referred pain and motor dysfunction, sometimes referred to as a knot or “kink.”

Soft tissue therapy involves the structures being pressed and kneaded, using physical contact with the hand or a mechanical device/tool. The goal of soft tissue is to relieve pain and inflammation, prevent further injury, reduce spasm, postural correction, and improve circulation to the area.

Benefits

  • Helps increase local blood flow and recovery

  • Helps to clear damaged cells, supply tissues with oxygen and nutrients

  • Assists in tissue healing

  • Helps relieve pain, decrease stiffness, as well as improve the affected area’s range of motion
